The leaders of Sweden's three coalition parties and the far-right Sweden Democrats have decided to take responsibility for revising the system of social benefits for non-European immigrants in order to curb mass migration, reports Evropeiska Pravda.
According to the Danish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, since 2012, Sweden has received more than 770,000 people from countries outside the European Union and the European Economic Area. During this time, the country has witnessed a split caused by mass immigration and an integration policy that does not provide any incentives for inclusion in society. Record numbers of migrants arrive in Sweden from India, Ukraine, and Finland.
Peculiarities of integration of non-European migrants
The problems of integration of non-European migrants include segregation, social isolation, high unemployment, low school performance, and lack of common Swedish values. In this regard, the leaders of the Swedish coalition have expressed their intention to implement reforms that provide for language learning and job placement for non-European immigrants in the highly skilled labor market.
The Swedish government also plans to impose restrictions on social benefits for non-European immigrants, such as child benefits, housing, unemployment, sickness and parental leave. Delaying payments could be an opportunity to determine the effectiveness and necessity of assistance.
Sweden, which has hosted a significant number of immigrants since the years of conflict in the 1990s, now faces challenges such as rising crime rates, which have led to the recognition of a failed migration policy. In recent years, anti-immigrant rhetoric has intensified, and the far-right Sweden Democrats party has won first place in the elections, giving the new government the opportunity to review social policy and set a new direction for the country.
