Migration policy: EU border changes in the global rules for accepting migrants
Table of contents
In today's world, migration is becoming not only an important aspect of social and economic development, but also a subject of constant discussion and negotiation. Changes in the global rules for admitting migrants are on the agenda of international discussions. Learn more about changes in global migration rules discussed by leaders of advanced countries
Suella Braverman, the head of the British Home Office, insists that global rules for accepting immigrants need to be changed immediately, as existing treaties and conventions created half a century ago have lost their relevance in the context of the realities of the 21st century.
During her visit to the United States, Braverman put forward proposals on the need to bring migration rules in line with modern challenges. She emphasized that taking into account the rapid technological evolution and modern realities is an important element of ensuring effective control of migration processes.
Problems with the effectiveness of the British migration control system
Currently, the main problem is the flow of illegal migrants who cross the English Channel, often risking their own lives. Rishi Sunaka's government has already tried to implement a system of sending migrants to Rwanda, but this idea has faced legal difficulties and appeals against court decisions.
The inefficiency of the British migration control system is manifested in delays in processing applications and rising costs of maintaining migrants. The only way to solve this problem is to revise and modernize the existing rules.
Despite the difficult decisions, Braverman is also pressing the government to limit the influx of legal migrants into the healthcare and elderly care sectors. However, this is controversial within the government itself, as an aging population requires additional workers in areas where there are already insufficient numbers.
Government statistics show an increase in the flow of migrants through the canal, but this requires careful consideration and effective measures. In a meeting with Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas in the United States, Braverman intends to discuss possible areas of change in global migration rules to address current challenges.
